Namibia Safari

Namibia Safari
North of Windhoek and northwest of Otjiwarongo, near the famous Etosha National Park, is the headquarters of Johann van den Berg's Mashete Safaris which is a part of the vast 1,000,000-acre Etosha Conservancy hunting block. It is here that Ken Wilson successfully hunts three species that can only be hunted in Namibia: the diminutive Damara Dik-Dik, the beautiful Hartmann's Mountain Zebra, and the dangerous Namibian Oryx. Ken is also able to get footage of two species that can be hunted in Namibia, but which cannot currently be imported to the United States: Cheetah and Black-Faced Impala. And, following eventful side-trips to video Vingerklip and the spectacular wildlife concentrations in Etosha National Park, Johann guides Ken to good specimens of Southern Greater Kudu, Red Hartebeest, and Kalahari Springbok.

Zambia Safari - The Bangweulu Swamps
The first animals hunted are the Oribi and Tsessebe which are both found on the grasslands surrounding the flood plains. The Bangweulu Swamps are the only place in the world where the Black Lechwe exists. Only the male has horns, which are ringed and lyre-shaped, with 23 inches considered to be a good trophy. In order to increase the chances for an excellent specimen, Wayne and Ronnie and a skeleton staff move to fly camp. The reward is that Wayne is able to take a beautiful 26 incher on-camera.
Then the hunting begins for one of Africa's greatest trophies: the ghost of the swamps, the legendary Zambezi Sitatunga, an aquatic antelope that lives in the swamps. As a defense mechanism, Sitatunga can actually submerge with only their nostrils above water.
Sitatunga are difficult to hunt and rarely photographed. But Wayne and Ronnie move their camp into the swamps and several Sitatunga are filmed before Wayne takes a magnificent specimen on-camera.

In this sequel to Leopard Charge, which documents what can go wrong on this type of hunt, both Ken Wilson and Dr. Mike Gill shoot large cats while hunting with Harry Greaves of Fountain Safaris and his team including Garry Miles, Wayne Bartlett, Don Nicolas and trackers Cephus and Brown.

Classic Safari Films Classic Safari Films 6 DVD Set

The continent of Africa has always been a place of mystery and adventure. Early explorers wrote about fantastic herds of animals, and blood thirsty cannibals, while others spoke of huge tusked beasts and horse-like creatures with 20 foot long necks. The early accounts were often discounted as fantastic tales made up by promoters and con men. When American president Theodore Roosevelt made a trip to Africa right after the turn of the century, the whole world was fascinated, and finally the stories of huge beasts and strange people were taken seriously.

  • Classic Safari Films is a 6 DVD collection that includes four of the earliest documentary films ever made on safaris and African wildlife.Included is the first sound movie made in Africa - Congorilla - plus three other films shot by Martin and Osa Johnson during their travels.
You'll witness Lion and Rhino charges, herds of Zebra and Wildebeest in the Serengeti, giant Crocodiles in the Nile, and many scenes that have not been witnessed in decades.
This is Africa as it was before humans tamed and explored it. This is dangerous, mysterious, un-explored Africa where Elephants with 100 pound tusks were still common, and the land was still wild for thousands of miles in any direction. Also included in the set are two of the best known Hollywod features that deal with adventure in Africa:
  • Snows of Kilimanjaro and King Solomon's Mines.
Both are classics in their own right and were, at the time of their release, considered two of the finest films ever made in Hollywood.
As a fascinating and historically significant set, Classic Safari Films is without peer. It is simply the best of the best, and is destined to be a collector's item to anyone interested in exploration, wildlife, safaris and adventure.
Contains some African tribal nudity and graphical cultural images.
